A team of University of Arkansas Engineering
Seniors recently won first place in the 200-2001 Material
Handling Industry Student Design competition.
The students, Brent Fraser, Amber Lehrman,
Andy Stroud, and Geoffrey Skinner won the award by redesigning a
recycling center to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
The team had previously won the annual Eagle
Award of Excellence, a material handling project contest
sponsored by Cisco-Eagle, Inc of Little Rock.
Student teams from Industrial Engineering
departments around the nation participate in the yearly contest.
Judges include university faculties and material handling
professionals. Projects are judged on originality, technical
merit, completeness, and clarity of presentation.
Twenty-two teams from 14 Universities around
the nation submitted entries to the Material Handling Institute
contest. The national competition is sponsored by the
College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education, the
educational arm of the Material Handling Industry Association, a
trade association for the material handling industry.
