Incline Conveyor Application Guide

How to maximize your inclined conveyor

incline conveyor

Incline belt conveyor transports product between two different elevations. It's excellent to convey between a mezzanine and floor level, docks, overhead conveyor to floor, etc. This guide is designed to help you maximize incline conveyors in your operation.

The basics

It's easier to move something up from the horizontal than it is to move it along a flat plane. The amount of power it takes depends on the degree of incline being ascended.

Most incline conveyor projects are going to have a maximum 30-degree incline angle. Most of the calculations in the catalog are based on 25 degrees.

30 degree incline conveyor

If a 30 degree incline is exceeded, the following problems may occur:45 degree incline conveyor

  • At 45 degrees, boxes may slip back down the conveyor
  • At 45 degrees, drive capacity may be exceeded
  • At 45 degrees, boxes may tumble

How to determine box tumbling

See figure below for labels

  1. Draw your conveyor angle and box size. (H & L)
  2. Find the center of the box by adding lines (A & B)
  3. Draw vertical line (C)
  4. Determine lower third of box length (1/3 L)

FIGURE 2: If line "C" falls within the lower third of the box, it may tumble, depending on the internal weight distribution.
