Use Channel Beams on wide shelving with high capacity applications; standard beams are for medium to heavy applications The Double Rivet Channel beam is a beefy 3" x 1" channel steel beam designed to provide maximum left-to-right support. It gives stability and higher capacity than standard or heavy duty beams. With channel beams, your rivet shelving can handle brutal weights up to 1,800 pounds per shelf level (be sure to pay attention to overall shelving unit capacities.) Capacities are based on evenly distributed loads and take shelf structure materials into consideration, not shelf deck materials. 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" (Standard Duty): Used as upright post for standard RivetRite

the heavy duty angle post is the proper choice. Ideally suited for two level

Starter and add-on units
are combined to form economical rows of shelving. Each add-on unit includes a
pair of tee posts which are used in common between units. This reduces assembly
time and the number of parts required. Begin each row with two angle posts from
the starter unit and join the desired number of add-on units to complete the
row. Finish the last unit with a pair of angle posts from the starter unit.
All intermediate shelves
on units that exceed 24" deep utilize single rivet beams for front to back shelf
deck support. Units 12", 18" and 24" deep include one pair of single rivet beams
for intermediate use front to back.

When you consider the shelf capacity for your situation, consider the capacity of the shelf, the posts, and and the decking material.
All of these can have a bearing on your shelf capacity issues. Changing the number of shelves affects the capacity of the shelving unit. Units
with fewer shelves, spaced farther apart decrease the capacity of the posts.
Adding more shelves increases the capacity of the posts (to a point.) It is
possible to add more, higher capacity shelves than what the posts can carry.
Overloading the posts can cause failure of the shelving unit.
Example: 72" wide x 18" deep unit with channel beams and center supports
on each shelf can hold up to 1,850 pounds. The capacity of the four angle posts
in an 84" high unit with four shelves is 5,960 lbs. If you load the four shelves
to their rated capacity you would be carrying a load of 7,400 lbs, exceeding the
capacity of the posts, and likely causing failure of the unit.
In that example, the capacity of the posts limits the effective capacity of the unit
to 1,490 lbs per shelf.
The capacities shown are not intended for seismic
conditions or multi-level systems. Contact us if either of these
conditions apply. Lighter capacity decking materials can also change the
effective capacity of the shelving unit, and should be considered when
specifying your requirements. If you have a requirement for heavier loads, we
can verify that the shelving you are considering is adequate to hold the weight
