Description:

The Print & Apply Scanning Station is a modular self contained workstation designed specifically for use in the Distribution Center and 3rd Party Logistics provider marketplace.

This station consists of a series of conveyors that accumulate and singulate products for a print & apply engine and verification scanning operation after the label has been applied. The stations are available in two variations: Laser Bar-Code (BCR) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) applicators.

Each station is complete with integral controls that are capable of stand alone operation or interface to an upper level Warehouse Control System (WCS). These controls consist of a power/control panel and the computer. The single control panel contains necessary motor controls and power distribution for the station. The user is only required to provide a single power feed to this panel. The computer can be used to configure the label to be applied, or can be connected via ethernet to an upper level control system to receive downloads of data to be used for label configuration. Reports summarizing system operation and through-put are available for printing or upload to WCS.

A variety of conveyor types can be selected, based upon the application. These include Belt, Belt-Driven Accumulation and Motorized Drive Roller (MDR) with operational voltages of 24V DC, and 120 Volts AC to 480 Volt 3 Phase power.

Barcode Application

When items are to be bar-coded for a specific client application, the station operator is required to set the station up to configure the proper label for application to the cartons. This can be accomplished in two ways:

  1. Using the computer, the label can be configured on the screen and set-up to reprint the same or similar information continuously. This can be used when printing identification labels for a specific product that is to be shipped to a specific client. It can also be configured to label and sequentially number cartons in a particular shipment.
  2. Secondly, you can use the WCS link to receive information to be printed on the label from an upper level control system, which links a specific order to the items to be labeled.

When the cartons are released onto the conveyor feeding the Print & Apply engine, the labels will be automatically generated and applied to the cartons. Immediately after application, the carton will pass through a barcode scanner to verify the label for correctness and readability. If the label fails, the carton will stop and a message will be displayed on the computer screen. With the optional reject conveyor, those cartons can be diverted off the main line for later resolution.

RFID Application

When items having no machine readable label are required to have an RFID label placed on them, they can be processed in two ways:

If a machine readable label is present on the carton, the Isle Pass system can be configured with an optional upstream barcode scanner that will automatically identify the cartons as they pass through the station. The computer can then be used to receive information from the WMS system regarding label content.

Immediately after the label is applied, an RFID scanner will verify the content of the label. If the label fails, the carton will stop and a message will be displayed on the computer screen. With the optional reject conveyor, those cartons can be diverted off the main line for later resolution.
