ACTIV Systems: Super High Density Dynamic Storage Technology

ACTIV systems allow you to position controls and drives independent of the unit

Especially beneficial in freezer areas...controls and drives can be positioned outside the controlled environment

ACTIV is Super High Density Dynamic Storage technology that moves unit loads in a continuous flow. ACTIV assigns the unit loads into a path and subsequently through the system rather than to a static location within the system, as with conventional S/R operations.

Retrotech ACTIV systems are continuous flow systems for unit load and roll handling. Cross docking, work-in-process, and distribution applications are all within the scope of ACTIV.

Basic Components

ACTIV's patented technology is based on four basic components:

  • Rack Structure

  • Vertical Transfer Lift (VTL)

  • Deep Lane Transfer (DLT)

  • Cross-Aisle Transfer (CAT)

Rack Structure: Although ACTIV's Rack Structure physically resembles that  of a drive-through rack structure, it is designed specifically to accommodate ACTIV's VTL's, DLT's and CAT's.

Vertical Transfer Lift (VTL): This is the device used to move unit loads between levels. VTL's allow rows of deep lanes to be stacked on top of each other to create a multi-level system.

Deep Lane Transfer (DLT): This is the mechanical cart used tot transport the loads to a rack position within a deep lane. Each lane has the dedicated DLT cart, which is equipped with a steel deck that allows its load to be raised or lowered as necessary. Whenever a load is onboard, the cart runs with its deck in the raised position; without a load, it runs with its deck in the lowered position. The cart operates by means of a cable-life mechanism located under the deck. These driving and lifting cable systems operate independently.

Cross-Aisle Transfer (CAT): This is the mechanical device used to index loads perpendicular (cross aisle) to the deep lanes. The CAT is timing-belt driven and its drive mechanism is located at the end of its CAT lane. When positioned in line with a DLT lane, the CAT's base serves as an extension of the rack, thus allowing loads to be easily transferred between the devices.

To transfer a load from the CAT, the DLT cart positions itself beneath the lad raising its deck to lift the load of the CAT's base. It then transports the load out of the CAT and down the lane. To reverse the operation, the DLT moves into position in line with the CAT lowering its deck to set its load onto the CAT's base.

ACTIV's software calculates the optimum path for each lad and the system's basic components work in unison to move that load through the system in the most efficient possible manner. Because all controls and devices are located outside the rack structure area, they are easier to access for maintenance purposes. This is especially beneficial for such controlled environments as coolers, freezers, and hot rooms where the controls and drives can be positioned outside the controlled environment.
