The science of comfort
- High-Volume, Low Speed fans help relieve the highs and lows of temperature ranges in large, open buildings by destratifying temperature zones
- Energy efficient and quiet
- Moves large volumes of air to areas that HVAC systems on their own cannot reach
- Slow speed reduces total energy cost for heating/cooling large areas
Justifying an HVLS fan upgrade
Regulate temperature
In winter, warm air collects near the top of tall, open spaces. HVLS fan technology circulates this trapped heat, continually forcing it downward and throughout the structure without creating a cooling draft. This provides a more even distribution of heat from top to bottom - especially important when employees are working at different levels within a generally open structure. A Big Ass HVLS fan may drive your heating costs down by as much as 30%.

When it's hot in facilities without A/C, slowly moving air breaks up the moisture-saturated boundary layer surrounding the body, accelerating evaporation to produce a perceived cooling effect of up to 10°F. When employees feel cooler, they're measurably more productive with better morale. Used in conjunction with air conditioning or evaporation cooling systems, HVLS fans can efficiently circulate cooled air throughout the structure, making your HVAC more effective. With improved air movement, you can set your thermostat at a higher temperature without diminishing comfort - using 3 to 6 percent less energy per degree.
Improve ventilation
Better circulation pays off in unexpected ways. Not only does well-circulated air keep employees comfortable, it may also reduce the spoilage and mold that can crop up due to pockets of humidity, as well as minimize drying time for paints and stains.
Quiet efficiency
Relying on size, not speed, HVLS fans keep energy consumption to a minimum. The 1-2 HP motors, helical-cut gears and patented airfoils on Big Ass Fans offer resiliency, long life and efficiency, and you may be eligible for energy-savings rebates after installation. All models shown test at a noise level below 55 dBA, meaning they operate quietly and unobtrusively.
Optional features:
- Wet-rated and washdown-ready designs available for some models
- Standard colors are silver and yellow; 11 upgrade colors are available, or you can customize colors to suit your branding
- Wall-mounted controls come standard; the optional SmartSense system uses a remote temperature sensor to automatically manage fan speed
