What is RailGuard 200?
RailGuard 200 is a modular rail system that provides a safety barrier between workers and fall hazards. Each modular kit includes (1) rail section, (1) base plate, and (2) locking pins. Combine kits to create a rail system that exactly suits your needs. Great for leading edge rooftop fall protection, for defining material landing zones during active jobsite work, and other perimeter definition applications, RailGuard 200 meets OSHA 1910.23(c) fall protection requirements.
Assembly is simple and requires no tools. Slot one rail end into the base plate and secure with a locking pin. Slot and pin the other end into the base plate of the next rail section. Repeat process to create a rail run. Weighted bases stay firmly in place without drilling, so rooftop water integrity is not compromised. While usually a temporary fall protection solution, RailGuard systems can also be permanently mounted (anchored) inside or outside your facility.
Choose galvanized finish for greatest resistance to corrosion and weather, or opt for a safety yellow powder coat finish when visibility is more important.
How to Configure a RailGuard System
- Start by measuring the jobsite for the total length of rail needed to guard the perimeter of your roof. Determine how many rail kits will be needed, using as many 10' sections as possible for greatest cost savings.
- Incorporate turns as needed. Each base provides (4) rail socket slots and allows 90-degree and 45-degree turns in your system.
- End your configuration with a closed loop that connects all bases and rail sections. Otherwise, use 5' outrigger rail sections at each end of the rail run (as required by OSHA). Outriggers are placed perpendicular to the rail run to provide needed counterbalance. Order an additional base plate for the final rail section when using outriggers.
- Locking pins must be used to secure all rails into base plates; unsecured rails do not meet OSHA requirements.
- Use toeboards when there is a risk of materials falling to a level below the RailGuard 200 location.
Additional Options
With many non-standard sizes, finishes, and accessory options available, you can create a RailGuard 200 system that is customized to your particular safety needs. Contact us for more information.
- Non-standard rail sizes: Rails from 2' to 13', as well as adjustable length rails, help you achieve a precise fit where that is required.
- Powder coat finish: Color options include safety yellow, tan, blue, gray, black, and putty.
- Low profile rail sections: 18" top height allows you to run rail below overhead obstructions.
- Alternate base plates: Request a special style of base plate for use on standing seam rooftops.
- Adjustable toeboards: Use for applications where there is no parapet and debris, tools, or materials could be kicked off the roof edge. Adjustable toeboards consist of telescoping steel 2x4 base in (4) available lengths.
- Base transporter: This important piece of equipment makes relocation of base plates quicker and easier. Use when frequent repositioning is needed.
- Centurion cart: Helps keep RailGuard 200 components organized and mobile. Carries up to (8) base plates, (7) rail sections. Cart has an integrated lift winch to raise base plates for placement in the cart. Large floatation tires are easy rolling. Cart has a lifting ring for hoisting to roof top.
- Goliath mega cart: Store, transport, and deploy up to 190-feet of RailGuard 200 rail sections plus a 5' swing gate, base transporter, and steel toeboards.
- Goliath winch: May be added to the Goliath Mega Cart to lift and position base plates.
