Optimize your space by using the vertical cube
The average warehouse is about 31 feet tall. Most can make better use of all that vertical cube. It's pretty standard to use pallet racks, mezzanines and pick modules for storage and processing space. The difference with AS/RS is that it greatly reduces the air space within the cube, particularly cross and access aisles, stairways, and forklift lanes. AS/RS lets you use more of that space for storage and access -- which is critical for facilities in areas where expansion is difficult and relocation impractical. While the space savings vary from project to project, it can be at least 85% due to storage density.
