A variety of storage requirements ranging from hardware to kayaks
The material mix made accomplishing these priorities harder than a typical storeroom.
The facility was required to warehouse a large variety of items of differing sizes, security requirements, access needs and configurations. This mix includes large playground equipment, spare parts, tools, consumable maintenance liquids and materials, audiovisual gear, lawn games, hardware, kayaking equipment and stage equipment.
This collection varies widely in size, shape, weights and values. Keeping it all organized, safe and accessible was a design challenge.
The Solution: optimized storage types for a wide range of materials
Cisco-Eagle laid out the facility to get the most storage out of a compact footprint while prioritizing worker safety and ease of access. Rather than force every item into one storage type, the design paired each category of material with the right method:
- Cantilever racks for large, long items such as kayaks
- Pallet racks for unitized storage of larger, heavier items, including playground equipment
- Shelving to handle parts, tools and maintenance equipment
- Workbenches for maintenance work and staging
- Mezzanines to create more storage space in the facility's tight footprint
- When needed, racks and other areas were secured with wire partitions and caging for higher value inventory such as audiovisual equipment and tools. Racks were secured with specialty rack caging systems
The results
The finished layout transformed an empty building into a functioning maintenance hub.
Park staff gained an organized home for a wide range of parts and equipment, a dedicated and properly equipped repair and welding area, and secured storage that protects high-value items.
With material matched with the right storage type and clear access, technicians find what they need and get equipment back in service faster, keeping the park ready for visitors.
