About beam capacity

Actual capacity is equal to or greater than listed capacity. Beam has a safety factor equaling 1.67:1. Beam capacities are increased by the use of beam ties, which can also be used as front-to-back pallet supports.

The SK3000 bolt-on connection

Every connector plate features round holes, not slots. Since beams are bolted to the upright with 2 grade-5 bolts and nuts, there is no need for an extra safety lock to secure the SK3000 connection. This and the use of two bolts instead of one, eases installation by providing automatic "squaring" and "plumbing" of the rack, without the use of come-alongs or turnbuckles. Bolted connections are designed to exceed RMI standards, and will withstand an accidental upward impact of 1,000 lbs. for operational safety.

Structural pallet rack for high-traffic, heavy-load storage systems

Use these racks in preference to roll-form selective racks when you are storing very heavy loads, and in particular when the rack is frequently accessed. All pallet racks are not the same. Construction, materials, and engineering differences really add up, even when they are not easily seen. Capacity Notes

3" uprights have 39,990 pounds capacity. 4" uprights have 56,860. All Steel King capacities are based upon minimum steel yields, rather than the actual average steel yield we receive. Capacities, on average, will be greater than those stated, and will never be less than stated.

The following conditions must be taken into consideration when calculating the needed upright frame capacity:

• Capacity is based on 48" vertical beam spacing. The greater the span, the lower the capacity
• Capacities are based on interior usage only
• Capacities are for selective applications only (contact us for assistance on pushback, flow and other uses)
• Capacities are calculated for non-seismic applications
• All columns/posts must be anchored to an adequate concrete floor as required by RMI (Rack Manufacturers' Institute) code
• Capacities are based on installation in a plumb condition
• Capacities are per upright, assuming equal loads on both posts

Racks are equipped with beam ties for greater capacity

Beam ties help support weak or misplaced pallets and connect beams to each other to increase rack capacity (this is why channel beams are listed with two capacities, one with and one without ties). Install flush with the top of the beams. For use when load overhangs beams; for concentrated loads, contact us for assistance. Beam ties can also be ordered as pallet supports with a minimum 2 required per pallet as pallet support; one per beam pair as a tie. Beams are pre-punched to accept the supports, so installation is fast and easy.
