Lift Table Terms to Know
- Total live load: The total weight of what we typically consider the "load": the cartons, components or containers you're trying to move
- Total dead load: The total weight of any fixtures mounted to the lift table: scales, conveyors, etc.
- Center of gravity: When the center of gravity is not placed in the center of a lift's platform, it can cause stress on the structure, so off-centered loads should be carefully accounted for
- Side loading: Loading a lift table from the side
- End loading: Loading from either end of a lift table; because most scissor lifts are stronger over the ends than the sides, end loading is recommended
- Edge loading: This occurs when a load is positioned at one edge of a platform, thus placing strain on the structure when the lift is raised
Knowing all the details of what you're loading and how enables us to specify a lift that will work for your application. For more information about scissor lift specification, see our guide to industrial lifts.
