Employee Spotlight – Jason Boynton
In this month’s employee spotlight, we talk to Jason Boynton, an account executive in our Nashville office. Jason looks to solve his customer’s most pressing issues through tailored solutions. He also recognizes the value of communication in every step of the process.
Describe the most common challenges you face in your role and how you overcome them.
The most frequent challenge I encounter is devising unique solutions for customer-specific problems that require thinking outside the box. To overcome these challenges, I rely heavily on our strong relationships with manufacturers and vendors. These partnerships are crucial as they allow us access to a variety of unique solutions that can be tailored to meet the specific needs of our customers.
What skills do you find most essential in your role, and how have you developed these skills over time?
Communication is paramount in my role. I often act as a liaison among various stakeholders including vendors, customers, accounting, and inside sales. My job is to ensure that all these disparate parts are aligned, which requires clear and effective communication. Over time, I’ve honed this skill through constant practice and feedback, learning to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
What’s your approach to building and maintaining strong relationships with your clients?
My primary strategy is to engage directly with clients on-site whenever possible. This direct interaction allows me to comprehensively understand their needs and spot potential problems or additional opportunities they might not have noticed. For instance, a visit to address a conveyor issue might reveal related needs in guardrails, racking, or storage. Being proactive and offering multifaceted solutions helps strengthen client relationships and positions me as a trusted advisor.
From your perspective, what are the biggest changes you’ve seen in the industry and how have you adapted?
The most significant shift has been the increasing move towards automation. Coming from a background in racking and construction, I have had to broaden my understanding to integrate these traditional elements with advanced automation solutions. Adapting to this change has involved continual learning and applying my construction knowledge in ways that complement the new technologies.
Can you share a piece of advice you’ve received in your career that’s made a significant impact?
A crucial piece of advice I’ve received is to look beyond the immediate problem presented by the client. Often, a primary issue may be symptomatic of underlying challenges. In discussions, it’s important to offer solutions that not only address the main concern but also consider potential related issues. This approach allows me to provide more comprehensive, thoughtful solutions and shows clients that we understand the breadth and depth of their operational challenges.
Scuba diving is a passion of yours. What draws you to it?
What I find most captivating about scuba diving is the sensation of weightlessness—it’s akin to flying. The underwater world offers a vast expanse of unexplored territory, and each dive is a chance to encounter something new and extraordinary. The unique perspective you gain underwater, where life thrives in such a different and vibrant way, is endlessly fascinating.
