Why Static Walls are a Data Center’s Biggest Risk

March 26, 2026

data center wire security cages

In the data center world, everyone obsesses over virtual agility. Millions are spent on scalable architectures, software-defined networking, and high-spec power strips. But for some reason, when it is time to carve out the physical floor, people revert to nostalgic construction methods.

If you are running a facility, you know the drill: the only thing you can count on is that things will change. You’ll get a request for more space, more power, or more isolation. January 8, 2026

If you’re selling goods to consumers, returns are a fact of life, especially if you sell online. For 2025, customers returns are expected to reach $849.9 billion in merchandise, 19.3% of all sales. In the online sales world, that percentage was higher at 17.6%. This can seem “driver-unfriendly” because they contain the driver. However, there are good reasons to install them while ensuring drivers have a good experience at your facility.

Security considerations for any facility are a neverending search. In this day and age, you want to make sure your employees feel comfortable and safe from potential harm so that they can work without fear. One aspect of security that seems to only increase over time is the notion of access, and how much you want to allow for your operations. One overlooked area in controlling access to your building is by way of a guard booth or shack. Sure, it can seem an afterthought, or possibly an expense not worth undertaking…..but to truly limit the access your facility gets, adding a guard shack is putting a secure solution on the frontlines of your operations, while also adding an engaging first impression to customers.

February 2, 2021

Driver access cage securing a warehouse personnel door.

Dock door security cages are used to control access to warehouse facilities, docks and receiving areas where drivers, service workers and others enter a building. They are typically 2 or 3-sided and cover a dock’s personnel access door while allowing truck drivers and other visitors to enter the facility, but not the warehouse and general storage or production areas.
